Med26 | Mediator of RNA polymerase II transcription subunit 26; Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene- specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional pre-initiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors (By similarity). Zfp106 | Zinc finger protein 106; RNA-binding protein. Specifically binds to 5'-GGGGCC-3' sequence repeats in RNA. Essential for maintenance of peripheral motor neuron and skeletal muscle function. Required for normal expression and/or alternative splicing of a number of genes in spinal cord and skeletal muscle, including the neurite outgrowth inhibitor RTN4. Also contributes to normal mitochondrial respiratory function in motor neurons, via an unknown mechanism. (1888 aa) |
