Rest | RE1-silencing transcription factor; Transcriptional repressor which binds neuron-restrictive silencer element (NRSE) and represses neuronal gene transcription in non-neuronal cells. Restricts the expression of neuronal genes by associating with two distinct corepressors, SIN3A and RCOR1, which in turn recruit histone deacetylase to the promoters of REST-regulated genes (By similarity). Mediates repression by recruiting the BHC complex at RE1/NRSE sites which acts by deacetylating and demethylating specific sites on histones, thereby acting as a chromatin modifier (By similarity). Spire1 | Protein spire homolog 1; Acts as an actin nucleation factor, remains associated with the slow-growing pointed end of the new filament. Involved in intracellular vesicle transport along actin fibers, providing a novel link between actin cytoskeleton dynamics and intracellular transport. Required for asymmetric spindle positioning and asymmetric cell division during oocyte meiosis. Required for normal formation of the cleavage furrow and for polar body extrusion during female germ cell meiosis ; Belongs to the spire family. (643 aa) |
