Maff | Transcription factor MafF; Since they lack a putative transactivation domain, the small Mafs behave as transcriptional repressors when they dimerize among themselves. However, they seem to serve as transcriptional activators by dimerizing with other (usually larger) basic-zipper proteins, such as NFE2L1/NRF1, and recruiting them to specific DNA-binding sites. Interacts with the upstream promoter region of the oxytocin receptor gene. May be a transcriptional enhancer in the up-regulation of the oxytocin receptor gene at parturition. (156 aa) | ||||
Hand1 | Heart- and neural crest derivatives-expressed protein 1; Transcription factor that plays an essential role in both trophoblast giant cell differentiation and in cardiac morphogenesis. Binds the DNA sequence 5'-NRTCTG-3' (non-canonical E-box). Acts as a transcriptional repressor of SOX15. In the adult, could be required for ongoing expression of cardiac-specific genes (By similarity). (216 aa) |
