Maff | Transcription factor MafF; Since they lack a putative transactivation domain, the small Mafs behave as transcriptional repressors when they dimerize among themselves. However, they seem to serve as transcriptional activators by dimerizing with other (usually larger) basic-zipper proteins, such as NFE2L1/NRF1, and recruiting them to specific DNA-binding sites. Interacts with the upstream promoter region of the oxytocin receptor gene. May be a transcriptional enhancer in the up-regulation of the oxytocin receptor gene at parturition. (156 aa) | ||||
Tcf4 | Transcription factor 4; Transcription factor that binds to the immunoglobulin enhancer Mu-E5/KE5-motif. Involved in the initiation of neuronal differentiation. Activates transcription by binding to the E box (5'- CANNTG-3'). Isoform 2 inhibits MYOD1 activation of the cardiac alpha- actin promoter. Binds to the E-box present in the somatostatin receptor 2 initiator element (SSTR2-INR) to activate transcription. May have a regulatory function in developmental processes as well as during neuronal plasticity. (670 aa) |
