Terf1 | Telomeric repeat-binding factor 1; Binds the telomeric double-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeat and negatively regulates telomere length. Involved in the regulation of the mitotic spindle. Component of the shelterin complex (telosome) that is involved in the regulation of telomere length and protection. Shelterin associates with arrays of double-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeats added by telomerase and protects chromosome ends; without its protective activity, telomeres are no longer hidden from the DNA damage surveillance and chromosome ends are inappropriately processed by DNA repair pathways. Uhrf2 | E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase UHRF2; E3 SUMO-, but not ubiquitin-, protein ligase for ZNF131 (By similarity). E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that is an intermolecular hub protein in the cell cycle network. Ubiquitinates cyclins, CCND1 and CCNE1, in an apparently phosphorylation-independent manner and induces G1 arrest. Also ubiquitinates PCNP leading to its degradation by the proteasome. Through cooperative DNA and histone binding, may contribute to a tighter epigenetic control of gene expression in differentiated cells. (803 aa) |
