MAFK | Transcription factor MafK; Since they lack a putative transactivation domain, the small Mafs behave as transcriptional repressors when they dimerize among themselves. However, they act as transcriptional activators by dimerizing with other (usually larger) basic-zipper proteins, such as NFE2, NFE2L1/NRF1, NFE2L2/NRF2 and NFE2L3/NRF3, and recruiting them to specific DNA-binding sites. Small Maf proteins heterodimerize with Fos and may act as competitive repressors of the NF-E2 transcription factor ; Belongs to the bZIP family. Maf subfamily. (156 aa) | ||||
MAZ | Myc-associated zinc finger protein; May function as a transcription factor with dual roles in transcription initiation and termination. Binds to two sites, ME1a1 and ME1a2, within the MYC promoter having greater affinity for the former. Also binds to multiple G/C-rich sites within the promoter of the Sp1 family of transcription factors. Regulates inflammation-induced expression of serum amyloid A proteins. (493 aa) |
