MAX | Protein max; Transcription regulator. Forms a sequence-specific DNA- binding protein complex with MYC or MAD which recognizes the core sequence 5'-CAC[GA]TG-3'. The MYC:MAX complex is a transcriptional activator, whereas the MAD:MAX complex is a repressor. May repress transcription via the recruitment of a chromatin remodeling complex containing H3 'Lys-9' histone methyltransferase activity. Represses MYC transcriptional activity from E-box elements. NEK1 | Serine/threonine-protein kinase Nek1; Phosphorylates serines and threonines, but also appears to possess tyrosine kinase activity. Involved in DNA damage checkpoint control and for proper DNA damage repair. In response to injury that includes DNA damage, NEK1 phosphorylates VDAC1 to limit mitochondrial cell death. May be implicated in the control of meiosis (By similarity). Involved in cilium assembly. (1286 aa) |
