NELFE | Negative elongation factor E; Essential component of the NELF complex, a complex that negatively regulates the elongation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. The NELF complex, which acts via an association with the DSIF complex and causes transcriptional pausing, is counteracted by the P-TEFb kinase complex. Provides the strongest RNA binding activity of the NELF complex and may initially recruit the NELF complex to RNA. Belongs to the RRM NELF-E family. (380 aa) | ||||
NAGK | N-acetyl-D-glucosamine kinase; Converts endogenous N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc), a major component of complex carbohydrates, from lysosomal degradation or nutritional sources into GlcNAc 6-phosphate. Involved in the N- glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) degradation pathway: although human is not able to catalyze formation of Neu5Gc due to the inactive CMAHP enzyme, Neu5Gc is present in food and must be degraded. Also has ManNAc kinase activity. (390 aa) |
