"FABP2" - fatty acid binding protein 2, intestinal in Homo sapiens
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Size
small protein node
small nodes:
protein of unknown 3D structure
large protein node
large nodes:
some 3D structure is known or predicted
Node Color
colored protein node
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
non-colored protein node
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding each other.
Known Interactions
database edge
from curated databases
experiment edge
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
neighborhood edge
gene neighborhood
fusion edge
gene fusions
cooccurrence edge
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining edge
textmining
coexpression edge
co-expression
homology edge
protein homology

FABP2fatty acid binding protein 2, intestinal; FABP are thought to play a role in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters. FABP2 is probably involved in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis. Binds saturated long-chain fatty acids with a high affinity, but binds with a lower affinity to unsaturated long- chain fatty acids. FABP2 may also help maintain energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor (132 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
FABP1
fatty acid binding protein 1, liver; Binds free fatty acids and their coenzyme A derivatives, bilirubin, and some other small molecules in the cytoplasm. May be involved in intracellular lipid transport (127 aa)

HNF4A
hepatocyte nuclear factor 4, alpha (474 aa)
            score_image   0.798
MANBA
mannosidase, beta A, lysosomal; Exoglycosidase that cleaves the single beta-linked mannose residue from the non-reducing end of all N-linked glycoprotein oligosaccharides (879 aa)
            score_image   0.749
HNF4G
hepatocyte nuclear factor 4, gamma; Transcription factor. Has a lower transcription activation potential than HNF4-alpha (445 aa)
            score_image   0.711
FABP6
fatty acid binding protein 6, ileal; Ileal protein which stimulates gastric acid and pepsinogen secretion. Seems to be able to bind to bile salts and bilirubins. Isoform 2 is essential for the survival of colon cancer cells to bile acid-induced apoptosis (177 aa)
            score_image   0.707
GATA5
GATA binding protein 5 (397 aa)
            score_image   0.690
INSIG2
insulin induced gene 2; Mediates feedback control of cholesterol synthesis by controlling SCAP and HMGCR. Functions by blocking the processing of sterol regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs). Capable of retaining the SCAP-SREBF2 complex in the ER thus preventing it from escorting SREBPs to the Golgi. Seems to regulate the ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation of HMGCR (225 aa)
            score_image   0.688
SLC27A1
solute carrier family 27 (fatty acid transporter), member 1; Involved in translocation of long-chain fatty acids (LFCA) across the plasma membrane. The LFCA import appears to be hormone-regulated in a tissue-specific manner. In adipocytes, but not myocytes, insulin induces a rapid translocation of FATP1 from intracellular compartments to the plasma membrane, paralleled by increased LFCA uptake. May act directly as a bona fide transporter, or alternatively, in a cytoplasmic or membrane- associated multimeric protein complex to trap and draw fatty acids towards accumulation. Plays a pivo [...] (646 aa)
            score_image   0.659
MTTP
microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; Catalyzes the transport of triglyceride, cholesteryl ester, and phospholipid between phospholipid surfaces. Required for the secretion of plasma lipoproteins that contain apolipoprotein B (894 aa)
      score_image     score_image   0.615
GATA6
GATA binding protein 6; Transcriptional activator that regulates SEMA3C and PLXNA2. Thought to be important for regulating terminal differentiation and/or proliferation (595 aa)
            score_image   0.613
