"ASTL" - astacin-like metallo-endopeptidase (M12 family) in Homo sapiens
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Size
small protein node
small nodes:
protein of unknown 3D structure
large protein node
large nodes:
some 3D structure is known or predicted
Node Color
colored protein node
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
non-colored protein node
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding each other.
Known Interactions
database edge
from curated databases
experiment edge
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
neighborhood edge
gene neighborhood
fusion edge
gene fusions
cooccurrence edge
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining edge
textmining
coexpression edge
co-expression
homology edge
protein homology

ASTLastacin-like metallo-endopeptidase (M12 family); Oocyte-specific oolemmal receptor involved in sperm and egg adhesion and fertilization. Plays a role in the polyspermy inhibition. Probably acts as a protease for the post-fertilization cleavage of ZP2. Cleaves the sperm-binding ZP2 at the surface of the zona pellucida after fertilization and cortical granule exocytosis, rendering the zona pellucida unable to support further sperm binding (By similarity) (431 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
TIMP1
TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1; Complexes with metalloproteinases (such as collagenases) and irreversibly inactivates them by binding to their catalytic zinc cofactor. Also mediates erythropoiesis in vitro; but, unlike IL-3, it is species-specific, stimulating the growth and differentiation of only human and murine erythroid progenitors. Known to act on MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-11, MMP-12, MMP-13 and MMP-16. Does not act on MMP-14 (207 aa)

BACE1
beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1; Responsible for the proteolytic processing of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). Cleaves at the N-terminus of the A-beta peptide sequence, between residues 671 and 672 of APP, leads to the generation and extracellular release of beta-cleaved soluble APP, and a corresponding cell-associated C-terminal fragment which is later released by gamma-secretase (501 aa)
            score_image   0.563
FAM178B
family with sequence similarity 178, member B (679 aa)
            score_image   0.512
FAHD2B
fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase domain containing 2B; May have hydrolase activity (By similarity) (314 aa)
            score_image   0.499
A1CF
APOBEC1 complementation factor (594 aa)
            score_image   0.485
AMZ1
archaelysin family metallopeptidase 1; Zinc metalloprotease. Exhibits aminopeptidase activity against neurogranin in vitro. Does not hydrolyze angiotensin-2 (498 aa)
            score_image   0.438
ZP2
zona pellucida glycoprotein 2 (sperm receptor); The mammalian zona pellucida, which mediates species- specific sperm binding, induction of the acrosome reaction and prevents post-fertilization polyspermy, is composed of three to four glycoproteins, ZP1, ZP2, ZP3, and ZP4. ZP2 may act as a secondary sperm receptor (745 aa)
