"KDM4A" - lysine in Homo sapiens
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Size
small protein node
small nodes:
protein of unknown 3D structure
large protein node
large nodes:
some 3D structure is known or predicted
Node Color
colored protein node
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
non-colored protein node
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding each other.
Known Interactions
database edge
from curated databases
experiment edge
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
neighborhood edge
gene neighborhood
fusion edge
gene fusions
cooccurrence edge
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining edge
textmining
coexpression edge
co-expression
homology edge
protein homology

KDM4Alysine (K)-specific demethylase 4A; Histone demethylase that specifically demethylates ’Lys- 9’ and ’Lys-36’ residues of histone H3, thereby playing a central role in histone code. Does not demethylate histone H3 ’Lys-4’, H3 ’Lys-27’ nor H4 ’Lys-20’. Demethylates trimethylated H3 ’Lys-9’ and H3 ’Lys-36’ residue, while it has no activity on mono- and dimethylated residues. Demethylation of Lys residue generates formaldehyde and succinate. Participates in transcriptional repression of ASCL2 and E2F-responsive promoters via the recruitment of histone deacetylases and NCOR1, respectively (1064 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
NCOR1
nuclear receptor corepressor 1; Mediates transcriptional repression by certain nuclear receptors. Part of a complex which promotes histone deacetylation and the formation of repressive chromatin structures which may impede the access of basal transcription factors (2440 aa)

HCFC1
host cell factor C1 (VP16-accessory protein); Involved in control of the cell cycle. Also antagonizes transactivation by ZBTB17 and GABP2; represses ZBTB17 activation of the p15(INK4b) promoter and inhibits its ability to recruit p300. Coactivator for EGR2 and GABP2. Tethers the chromatin modifying Set1/Ash2 histone H3 ’Lys-4’ methyltransferase (H3K4me) and Sin3 histone deacetylase (HDAC) complexes (involved in the activation and repression of transcription, respectively) together. Component of a THAP1/THAP3-HCFC1-OGT complex that is required for the regulation of the transcriptional a [...] (2035 aa)
