STRINGSTRING
STRING protein interaction network
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
a 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding to each other.
Known Interactions
from curated databases
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
gene neighborhood
gene fusions
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining
co-expression
protein homology

neiEndonuclease VIII and DNA N-glycosylase with an AP lyase activity; Involved in base excision repair of DNA damaged by oxidation or by mutagenic agents. Acts as DNA glycosylase that recognizes and removes damaged bases. Has a preference for oxidized pyrimidines, such as thymine glycol, 5,6-dihydrouracil and 5,6-dihydrothymine. Has AP (apurinic/apyrimidinic) lyase activity and introduces nicks in the DNA strand. Cleaves the DNA backbone by beta-delta elimination to generate a single-strand break at the site of the removed base with both 3'- and 5'-phosphates. (263 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
ybgL
Putative lactam utilization protein; Catalyzes the cleavage of 5-oxoproline to form L-glutamate coupled to the hydrolysis of ATP to ADP and inorganic phosphate.

 0.928
polA
DNA polymerase I; In addition to polymerase activity, this DNA polymerase exhibits 5'-3' exonuclease activity; Belongs to the DNA polymerase type-A family.

 0.923
ybgJ
Putative carboxylase; Catalyzes the cleavage of 5-oxoproline to form L-glutamate coupled to the hydrolysis of ATP to ADP and inorganic phosphate.

 0.906
ybgK
Putative carboxylase; Residues 1 to 310 of 310 are 99.03 pct identical to residues 1 to 310 of 310 from Escherichia coli K-12 Strain MG1655: B0712.

 0.904
nth
Endonuclease III; DNA repair enzyme that has both DNA N-glycosylase activity and AP-lyase activity. The DNA N-glycosylase activity releases various damaged pyrimidines from DNA by cleaving the N-glycosidic bond, leaving an AP (apurinic/apyrimidinic) site. The AP-lyase activity cleaves the phosphodiester bond 3' to the AP site by a beta-elimination, leaving a 3'-terminal unsaturated sugar and a product with a terminal 5'- phosphate.

 0.771
ybgI
Orf, hypothetical protein; Provides significant protection from radiation damage and may be involved in the degradation of radiation-damaged nucleotides. Belongs to the GTP cyclohydrolase I type 2/NIF3 family.

 0.673
yacE
Putative DNA repair protein; Catalyzes the phosphorylation of the 3'-hydroxyl group of dephosphocoenzyme A to form coenzyme A; Belongs to the CoaE family.

 0.622
lhr
Member of ATP-dependent helicase superfamily II; Residues 1 to 1538 of 1538 are 98.56 pct identical to residues 1 to 1538 of 1538 from Escherichia coli K-12 Strain MG1655: B1653.

 0.538
guaA
GMP synthetase (glutamine-hydrolyzing); Catalyzes the synthesis of GMP from XMP.

 0.475
uvrC
Excinuclease ABC, subunit C; The UvrABC repair system catalyzes the recognition and processing of DNA lesions. UvrC both incises the 5' and 3' sides of the lesion. The N-terminal half is responsible for the 3' incision and the C-terminal half is responsible for the 5' incision (By similarity).
