STRINGSTRING
STRING protein interaction network
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
a 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding to each other.
Known Interactions
from curated databases
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
gene neighborhood
gene fusions
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining
co-expression
protein homology

mcpSPutative methyl-accepting chemotaxis protein; Chemotactic-signal transducers respond to changes in the concentration of attractants and repellents in the environment, transduce a signal from the outside to the inside of the cell, and facilitate sensory adaptation through the variation of the level of methylation. McpS is a specific chemoreceptor for 6 tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediates (succinate, fumarate, malate, oxaloacetate, citrate and isocitrate), butyrate and acetate. Malate, succinate, fumarate and oxaloacetate cause the strongest chemotactic response. (639 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
cheA
Chemotaxis histidine kinase CheA.

 0.993
cheR
Chemotaxis protein methyltransferase; Methylation of the membrane-bound methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCP) to form gamma-glutamyl methyl ester residues in MCP. Methylates the McpS chemotaxis receptor.
 0.983
cheR3
Putative methyltransferase; Function proposed based on presence of conserved amino acid motif, structural feature or limited homology; putative regulator.

 0.980
PP_4332

 0.963
PP_4393
Putative chemotaxis protein; Function proposed based on presence of conserved amino acid motif, structural feature or limited homology; putative cell process.

 0.948
PP_2128
Putative CheV-like chemotaxis protein; Function proposed based on presence of conserved amino acid motif, structural feature or limited homology; putative regulator.

 0.941
cheBA
Chemotaxis response regulator protein-glutamate methylesterase of group 1 operon; Involved in chemotaxis. Part of a chemotaxis signal transduction system that modulates chemotaxis in response to various stimuli. Catalyzes the demethylation of specific methylglutamate residues introduced into the chemoreceptors (methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins or MCP) by CheR. Also mediates the irreversible deamidation of specific glutamine residues to glutamic acid.
