STRINGSTRING
FRE5 protein (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) - STRING interaction network
"FRE5" - Putative ferric reductase with similarity to Fre2p in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
some 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding each other.
Known Interactions
from curated databases
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
gene neighborhood
gene fusions
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining
co-expression
protein homology

FRE5Putative ferric reductase with similarity to Fre2p; expression induced by low iron levels; the authentic, non-tagged protein is detected in highly purified mitochondria in high-throughput studies; Metalloreductase responsible for reducing extracellular iron and copper prior to import. Catalyzes the reductive uptake of Fe(3+)-salts and Fe(3+) bound to catecholate or hydroxamate siderophores. Fe(3+) is reduced to Fe(2+), which then dissociates from the siderophore and can be imported by the high-affinity Fe(2+) transport complex in the plasma membrane (By similarity) (694 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
FRE8
Protein with sequence similarity to iron/copper reductases, involved in iron homeostasis; deletion mutant has iron deficiency/accumulation growth defects; expression increased in the absence of copper-responsive transcription factor Mac1p; Required for the uptake of Fe(3+) ions. May participate in the transport of electrons from cytoplasm to an extracellular substrate (Fe(3+) ion) via FAD and heme intermediates (By similarity). Involved in iron homeostasis (686 aa)

SUB2
Component of the TREX complex required for nuclear mRNA export; member of the DEAD-box RNA helicase superfamily and is involved in early and late steps of spliceosome assembly; homolog of the human splicing factor hUAP56; ATP-binding RNA helicase component of the TREX complex involved in transcription elongation and required for the export of mRNA out of the nucleus. SUB2 plays also a role in pre-mRNA splicing and spliceosome assembly. May be involved in rDNA and telomeric silencing, and maintenance of genome integrity (446 aa)

  0.822
FTR1
High affinity iron permease involved in the transport of iron across the plasma membrane; forms complex with Fet3p; expression is regulated by iron; Permease for high affinity iron uptake (404 aa)

  0.797
ARN1
Transporter, member of the ARN family of transporters that specifically recognize siderophore-iron chelates; responsible for uptake of iron bound to ferrirubin, ferrirhodin, and related siderophores; Involved in the transport of siderophore ferrichrome and so has a role in iron homeostasis (627 aa)

  0.733
FET5
Multicopper oxidase, integral membrane protein with similarity to Fet3p; may have a role in iron transport; Iron transport multicopper oxidase, which is required for Fe(2+) high affinity uptake. May be required to oxidize Fe(2+) and release it from the transporter. Essential component of copper-dependent iron transport (622 aa)

  0.722
PEP5
Component of CORVET tethering complex; peripheral vacuolar membrane protein required for protein trafficking and vacuole biogenesis; interacts with Pep7p; Required for vacuolar biogenesis and for trafficking of hydrolase precursors to the vacuole. Mediates transport at the vacuolar membrane where it may be responsible for tethering transport vesicles on the target membranes. It is required for gluconeogenic growth of yeast. Acts as component of the HOPS complex that acts during the docking stage of vacuole fusion. HOPS is an effector for the vacuolar Rab GTPase YPT7 and is required for [...] (1029 aa)

  0.721
ENB1
Endosomal ferric enterobactin transporter, expressed under conditions of iron deprivation; member of the major facilitator superfamily; expression is regulated by Rcs1p and affected by chloroquine treatment; Involved in the transport of siderophore enterobactin and so has a role in iron homeostasis (606 aa)

  0.713
FET3
Ferro-O2-oxidoreductase required for high-affinity iron uptake and involved in mediating resistance to copper ion toxicity, belongs to class of integral membrane multicopper oxidases; Iron transport multicopper ferroxidase required for Fe(2+) ion high affinity uptake. Required to oxidize Fe(2+) and release it from the transporter. Essential component of copper- dependent iron transport (636 aa)

  0.710
FIT3
Mannoprotein that is incorporated into the cell wall via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor, involved in the retention of siderophore-iron in the cell wall; Involved in the uptake of non-siderophore and siderohpore sources of iron.
