STRINGSTRING
STRING protein interaction network
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
a 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding to each other.

degSProtease (degS); A site-1 protease (S1P) that cleaves the peptide bond between 'Val-148' and 'Ser-149' in RseA. Part of a regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP) cascade. When heat shock or other environmental stresses disrupt protein folding in the periplasm, DegS senses the accumulation of unassembled outer membrane porins (OMP) and then initiates RseA (anti sigma-E factor) degradation by cleaving its periplasmic domain, making it a substrate for subsequent cleavage by RseP. This cascade ultimately leads to the sigma-E-driven expression of a variety of factors dealing with folding [...] (340 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
rseA
sigma-E factor negative regulatory protein (mclA); An anti-sigma factor for extracytoplasmic function (ECF) sigma factor sigma-E (RpoE). ECF sigma factors are held in an inactive form by an anti-sigma factor until released by regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP). RIP occurs when an extracytoplasmic signal triggers a concerted proteolytic cascade to transmit information and elicit cellular responses. The membrane-spanning regulatory substrate protein is first cut periplasmically (site-1 protease, S1P, DegS), then within the membrane itself (site-2 protease, S2P, RseP), while cytopl [...]

 0.959
ribD
Riboflavin biosynthesis protein (ribD); Converts 2,5-diamino-6-(ribosylamino)-4(3h)-pyrimidinone 5'- phosphate into 5-amino-6-(ribosylamino)-2,4(1h,3h)-pyrimidinedione 5'- phosphate; In the N-terminal section; belongs to the cytidine and deoxycytidylate deaminase family.

 0.826
nrdR
Conserved hypothetical protein; Negatively regulates transcription of bacterial ribonucleotide reductase nrd genes and operons by binding to NrdR- boxes; Belongs to the NrdR family.
       0.825
ompA
Outer membrane protein P5 (ompA); With TolR probably plays a role in maintaining the position of the peptidoglycan cell wall in the periplasm. Acts as a porin with low permeability that allows slow penetration of small solutes; an internal gate slows down solute passage; Belongs to the outer membrane OOP (TC 1.B.6) superfamily. OmpA family.

 0.799
rsep
Conserved hypothetical transmembrane protein; A site-2 regulated intramembrane protease (S2P) that cleaves a peptide bond in the transmembrane region of RseA. Part of a regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP) cascade. Acts on DegS-cleaved RseA to release the cytoplasmic domain of RseA. This provides the cell with sigma-E (RpoE) activity through the proteolysis of RseA (By similarity); Belongs to the peptidase M50B family.

 0.656
glpK
Glycerol kinase (glpK); Key enzyme in the regulation of glycerol uptake and metabolism. Catalyzes the phosphorylation of glycerol to yield sn- glycerol 3-phosphate; Belongs to the FGGY kinase family.

 0.644
rseB
sigma-E factor regulatory protein (rseB); Negatively modulates the activity of sigma-E (RpoE) by stabilizing RseA under non-stress conditions. Although not essential for association of sigma-E with Rsea it increases their affinity 2- to 3-fold. When bound to RseA it prevents proteolysis by DegS, which is probably relieved by lipopolysaccharide binding (LPS) (By similarity). Belongs to the RseB family.

 0.631
infB
Translation initiation factor 2 (infB); One of the essential components for the initiation of protein synthesis. Protects formylmethionyl-tRNA from spontaneous hydrolysis and promotes its binding to the 30S ribosomal subunits. Also involved in the hydrolysis of GTP during the formation of the 70S ribosomal complex (By similarity); Belongs to the TRAFAC class translation factor GTPase superfamily. Classic translation factor GTPase family. IF-2 subfamily.

 0.616
recC
Exodeoxyribonuclease V, gamma chain (recC); A helicase/nuclease that prepares dsDNA breaks (DSB) for recombinational DNA repair. Binds to DSBs and unwinds DNA via a highly rapid and processive ATP-dependent bidirectional helicase activity. Unwinds dsDNA until it encounters a Chi (crossover hotspot instigator) sequence from the 3' direction. Cuts ssDNA a few nucleotides 3' to the Chi site. The properties and activities of the enzyme are changed at Chi. The Chi-altered holoenzyme produces a long 3'-ssDNA overhang and facilitates RecA-binding to the ssDNA for homologous DNA recombination [...]
       0.603
prc
Tail specific protease (prc); Involved in the cleavage of a C-terminal peptide of 11 residues from the precursor form of penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP3). May be involved in protection of the bacterium from thermal and osmotic stresses (By similarity).
