STRINGSTRING
STRING protein interaction network
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
a 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding to each other.
Known Interactions
from curated databases
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
gene neighborhood
gene fusions
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining
co-expression
protein homology

Upf1Regulator of nonsense transcripts 1 homolog; RNA-dependent helicase and ATPase required for nonsense- mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons. Is recruited to mRNAs upon translation termination and undergoes a cycle of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation; its phosphorylation appears to be a key step in NMD. The formation of an Upf1-Upf2-Upf3 surveillance complex is believed to activate NMD (By similarity). (1180 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
Upf2
RE04053p; Upf2 (Upf2) encodes a protein required for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD). It interacts directly with the product of Upf1 to identify and degrade NMD-substrate mRNAs, including mRNAs containing premature termination codons and a number of normal endogenous mRNAs.

 0.999
Upf3
Upf3, isoform B; Upf3 (Upf3) encodes a protein that regulates targets of the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay pathway. This pathway participates in homeostatic gene expression regulation and plays a quality control role in the elimination of mRNAs with premature termination codons. The product of Upf3 is involved in cell cycle progression and general developmental rate.

 0.999
Smg5
Smg5, isoform A; Smg5 (Smg5) encodes a protein involved in mRNA catabolism.

 0.999
Smg6
GH14566p; Smg6 (Smg6) encodes an RNA endonuclease that is required for nonsense mediated mRNA decay (NMD). Upon recognition of an NMD-targeted transcript, it cleaves the mRNA in the vicinity of the termination codon, exposing free 5' and 3' ends leading to the complete exonucleolytic degradation of the target.

 0.999
eRF3
Eukaryotic translation release factor 3 (eRF3) encodes a GTP-binding protein important in the termination of protein translation.

 0.999
nonC
Serine/threonine-protein kinase Smg1; Serine/threonine protein kinase involved in mRNA surveillance. Recognizes the substrate consensus sequence [ST]-Q. Involved in nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons, probably by phosphorylating Upf1.

 0.999
pcm
5'-3' exoribonuclease 1; Pacman (pcm) encodes an exoribonuclease that degrades decapped mRNA. It is involved in epithelial closure, male fertility, apoptosis and growth control.

 0.996
RnpS1
RNA-binding protein S1 (RnpS1) encodes a protein involved in RNA splicing and regulation of DNA transposition.

 0.993
btz
Barentsz, isoform D; Barentsz (btz) encodes a component of the exon junction complex that is recruited to spliced mRNAs to mark where introns have been removed. It is required for the posterior localization of osk mRNA.

 0.991
pAbp
Polyadenylate-binding protein; Binds the poly(A) tail of mRNA. Since it interacts with the cap-associating translation initiation factor eIF4G, it is likely that it functions by linking Atx2 to the cap-binding complex. Forms a complex with tyf and Atx2 which functions in adult circadian pacemaker neurons to sustain circadian rhythms likely by switching between activator and repressor modes of post-transcriptional regulation via interaction with Lsm12a or me31B, respectively. The activator complex (Atx2-tyf activator complex) activates the TYF-dependent translation of per to maintain 24 [...]
