Sec61 alpha subunit (Sec61alpha) encodes a subunit of the the translocon, a protein-conducting channel that mediates the co-translational transport of nascent polypeptides into the endoplasmic reticulum. It is a subunit of the Sec61 heterotrimer that forms the core of translocon channel.
