Gld2GLD2 poly(A) polymerase (Gld2) encodes a conserved poly-A polymerase in the GLD2 family. It is a paralog of the wisp gene. Gld2 is expressed strongly in the testis and at low levels in other tissues including the nervous system. In the male germ line, the product of Gld2 is essential for postmeiotic development of sperm; its depletion causes arrest of spermatogenesis prior to individualization, with abnormal nuclear condensation phenotypes. In the brain it is required for long-term memory. (1364 aa)
