STRINGSTRING
STRING protein interaction network
Nodes:
Network nodes represent proteins
splice isoforms or post-translational modifications are collapsed, i.e. each node represents all the proteins produced by a single, protein-coding gene locus.
Node Color
colored nodes:
query proteins and first shell of interactors
white nodes:
second shell of interactors
Node Content
empty nodes:
proteins of unknown 3D structure
filled nodes:
a 3D structure is known or predicted
Edges:
Edges represent protein-protein associations
associations are meant to be specific and meaningful, i.e. proteins jointly contribute to a shared function; this does not necessarily mean they are physically binding to each other.
Known Interactions
from curated databases
experimentally determined
Predicted Interactions
gene neighborhood
gene fusions
gene co-occurrence
Others
textmining
co-expression
protein homology

TECTAAlpha-tectorin; One of the major non-collagenous components of the tectorial membrane (By similarity). The tectorial membrane is an extracellular matrix of the inner ear that covers the neuroepithelium of the cochlea and contacts the stereocilia bundles of specialized sensory hair cells. Sound induces movement of these hair cells relative to the tectorial membrane, deflects the stereocilia and leads to fluctuations in hair- cell membrane potential, transducing sound into electrical signals. (2155 aa)
Predicted Functional Partners:
OTOA
Otoancorin; May act as an adhesion molecule; Belongs to the stereocilin family.

 0.930
CEACAM16
Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 16; Required for proper hearing, plays a role in maintaining the integrity of the tectorial membrane.

 0.904
FAU
Ubiquitin-like protein FUBI; FAU ubiquitin like and ribosomal protein S30 fusion.

 0.867
COCH
Cochlin; Plays a role in the control of cell shape and motility in the trabecular meshwork.

 0.782
TECTB
Beta-tectorin; One of the major non-collagenous components of the tectorial membrane (By similarity).

0.697
STRC
Stereocilin; Essential to the formation of horizontal top connectors between outer hair cell stereocilia; Belongs to the stereocilin family.

 0.678
OTOL1
Otolin-1; Collagen-like protein specifically expressed in the inner ear, which provides an organic scaffold for otoconia, a calcium carbonate structure in the saccule and utricle of the ear. Acts as a scaffold for biomineralization: sequesters calcium and forms interconnecting fibrils between otoconia that are incorporated into the calcium crystal structure. Together with OC90, modulates calcite crystal morphology and growth kinetics; Belongs to the OTOL1 family.

 0.675
GJB2
Gap junction beta-2 protein; Structural component of gap junctions. Gap junctions are dodecameric channels that connect the cytoplasm of adjoining cells. They are formed by the docking of two hexameric hemichannels, one from each cell membrane. Small molecules and ions diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell via the central pore.

 0.643
MUC2
Mucin-2; Coats the epithelia of the intestines, airways, and other mucus membrane-containing organs. Thought to provide a protective, lubricating barrier against particles and infectious agents at mucosal surfaces. Major constituent of both the inner and outer mucus layers of the colon and may play a role in excluding bacteria from the inner mucus layer.

 0.602
OTOS
Otospiralin; May be essential for the survival of the neurosensory epithelium of the inner ear.
